Death: Karen S. Douglas Obituary – After a valiant struggle against Parkinson’s disease, Karen S. Douglas, age 71, of Albany, Illinois, passed away in a calm and serene manner on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at her residence. The Gibson-Bode Funeral Home in Port Byron will be hosting a public visitation on Monday, March 25, 2024, from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening. Memorial services will be held in private, and burial will take place at Bethesda Cemetery in Hillsdale, Illinois, after the cemetery ceremonies.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to the Albany Ambulance service organization. Karen Davis was the daughter of Randel Davis and Gertrude (Rausch) Davis. She was born within the city of Moline, Illinois, on November 24, 1952. Following her graduation from Riverdale High School, she went on to pursue her interest in cosmetology and eventually earned her diploma from beauty school. Co-owner and manager of Mississippi Valley Haircrafters, a well-liked beauty salon located in Clinton, Iowa, she was also the sister of Deborah, who assisted her in this endeavor.

Karen has contributed her skills to the Clinton Community School District and Bunge in Albany, both of which reside in Albany. Trinity Methodist Church in Clinton, Iowa was the location of her wedding to Robert William Douglas, which took place on August 19, 1989. The culinary abilities that Karen possessed were unparalleled, and she took great pleasure in having get-togethers for her loved ones, especially on the evening of Christmas Eve. Sewing and growing orchids were two of her favorite hobbies, and she was a cherished wife, mother, sister, and grandmother among her family members.

Both the congregation of Garden Plain Presbyterian building and the building itself were extremely important to her, and she held her church community in the highest regard. Not only did Karen enjoy her family, but she also cherished her cat, Edward. Survivors include her husband, Robert Douglas; children, Brian (Becky) Goodhart of Albany, Illinois, Betsy Maertens of Silvis, Illinois, Wayne (Carmen) Douglas of Qulin, Missouri, Terry Douglas of Qulin, Missouri, David (Debbie) Douglas of Wentzville, Missouri, and Jacque (Dave) Holloway of Manhattan, Kansas; sister Deborah (Alan) Lieferman of Camanche, Iowa; grandchildren, Shawn Goodhart, Eric (Shelby) Goodhart

Cole Diercks, Brianna Goodhart, Kyle Douglas, Tyler Douglas, Jacob Holloway, Alyson (Pierson) McAtee, and Trey Holloway; three great-grandchildren; nephew, Michael (Stephanie) Lieferman; and niece, Michelle (John) Eversoll. In addition to her parents, her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Joyce Douglas, as well as her “Grandpa” William Goodhart, passed away before she left this world.
