John Mountain Obituary, Beloved Native Of Granby, CT, Dies Of Cancer At 55 – (1969 – 2024) Death Notice

Death: John Mountain Obituary – Having heroically fought cancer for over three years, John W. Mountain, age 55, of Granby, died away quietly on March 19, 2024, surrounded by his close family. He was the beloved husband of Tracy V. (Strniste) Mountain. His parents, Terrance Mountain and Joan Welch, both passed away before he was born. He was born in Westfield, Massachusetts. After completing his education at Southwick High School, John went on to attend the local schools. When John was twelve years old, he started his first job and went on to be a very diligent worker. As soon as John graduated from high school, he began working at Big Y, where he eventually became the store manager.

Immediately following their wedding in 2007, John and Tracy made the decision to acquire the Granville Country Store. Working hand in hand for the subsequent seventeen years, they were the proprietors and operators of the country store. John was a very outgoing person who was always polite to his clients and literally knew everyone in the town. He was a part of the community. When it came to real estate, John was a real estate enthusiast who enjoyed both investing and managing a wide variety of assets. Additionally, he was a devoted enthusiast of exotic automobiles and delighted in taking his family on rides in one of his own vehicles. Classic films were something that John and his family would frequently watch together on chilly evenings in front of a roaring fire. John was a diligent worker who began with very little and took great pride in the highly successful commercial initiatives he accomplished over the course of his career.

John was a family man before all else in his life. When John was able to spend time with his wife, Tracy, and his children, he had the greatest joy. The two were inseparable, closest friends, and did everything together. John and Tracy were soulmates. Spending time with his children, going swimming and bicycling, traveling, and simply being the “Fun Dad” were all things that he enjoyed doing. He was a superb listener, gave his family the impression that they were always safe, was an incredible personality, possessed a beautiful sense of humor, and enjoyed using sarcasm. Those who were around John and his family were always made to chuckle by John.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Tracy (Strniste) Mountain of Granby, CT his daughter, Taylor Mountain of Granville, MA, his son, Collin Terrance Mountain of Granby, CT his daughter, Abbey Gean Mountain of Granby, CT, his mother, Joan Welch of Westfield, MA, and his brothers, Terrance Mountain of Southwick, MA and Corey Welch of Westfield, MA and sister, Michelle Colson of Westfield, MA, and his fathers and mothers-in-law Peter Strniste and Barbara of Granville, MA and Richard and Tina Deblois of Palm Coast, FL, and his brothers-in-law Peter Strniste, Jr. of Boston, MA, Roland Deblois and his wife Alyssa of Palm Coast, FL and Andrew Strniste and his wife Brittany of Rutland, VT, and his beloved Bernese Mountain dog, Bernie.

On March 27, 2024, from three to seven o’clock in the evening, the family of John will be present at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, which is located at 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby, Connecticut 06035. A memorial service honoring John’s life will take place at Carmon’s at seven o’clock.
